EMDR/TRAUMA WORK

You are not your trauma.

Deeply distressing or disturbing experiences can leave imprints on us – both psychologically and emotionally.

Trauma can leave us feeling forever changed, robbed of things we wonder if we can ever recover. In the wake of trauma’s destruction are so many losses – loss of pleasure, loss of our sense of trust in the world or in people, loss of feeling, loss of security.

Traumatic events can live on in painful flashbacks and intrusive memories – in shame and in anxiety.

Living with unhealed trauma takes a toll on us.

It is exhausting to always be “on guard.”

Our relationships are stifled by our need to avoid, our desire to isolate, or by our fight-or-flight, hardwired responses.

We want to leave our trauma behind but it feels so embedded into our fabric that we don’t even know where to begin.

Stuck in the Past

Without our conscious awareness, our brains are processing information about our environment and events around us continuously. At night, during REM sleep, it is believed the brain sorts through all of the information it has absorbed to figure out what to store, where to store it and what to let go.

However, when something disturbing or traumatic occurs, this ability to “process” and “file” away the information becomes stalled and the disturbing memories become “stuck” or “frozen” in our brains.

Like when your computer freezes, and that icon just goes around and around.

EMDR helps you revisit the past without reliving it.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps process traumatic memories and stops the mental loop.

The eye movements used in a session are similar to the eye movements that occur during REM sleep.

With repeated sets of eye movements, the memory changes, losing its painful intensity and emotional charge.

You deserve a life that is free from the pain of the past.

EMDR is highly effective and has helped over two million people.

It is the most thoroughly researched method currently used in the treatment of trauma.

Trauma can be like a tree, where one memory brings you to another branch and then to another.
With EMDR, the client is in the driver’s seat. You determine the path and the connections.

EMDR – A Path to Permanent Relief & Freedom

One client who was helped by EMDR after decades of debilitating flashbacks from a traumatic event described it like this:

“The memory is still there, but instead of zooming into my face and blocking everything out, now when it comes up, it is off to the side and smaller. It doesn’t terrorize me anymore. I have a feeling now of being at peace with it.”

Over two million people have been helped by EMDR.

You deserve a life that is free from the pain of the past.
